Damien Hirst had 2 sculptures of his on display at Chatsworth House, which i believe to be not all that far from Leeds, making it a whole lot worse for me.
Both sculptures, one of a winged horse and the other of a unicorn, had been stripped down their middle, to expose the muscle and bone beneath, each standing on their own little plinth.
Definitely a big fan of Damien Hirst. All his work deals with the process of living and dying/being alive and being dead/ life and death. I had to think for a little how these 2 mythical creatures came into that category, then felt pretty embarrassed at myself cos I guess it's rather obvious. These creatures never existed. Therefore they never had a life and, in that case, no death either. Instead they have been metaphorically brought to life through mythology and films like Disney's Fantasia and have never really 'died' out.
