SORAPOL SS'13 'Euphoria'

Fabulous Thai designer Sorapol Chawaphatnakul (it took me a long time to learn how to spell and pronounce his surname) held the launch of his third collection for SS'13 at an underground car-park in Soho on Friday, and I was invited. The reason I was invited? I helped organize the event.

A team of interns (of which I was one) along with Mr S himself and creative director Daniel Lismore all spent the last few months planning, organizing and stressing about the big event that was on Friday. And it went amazingly! From the panther-headed-motorbike entrance, to the finale of all the masked models doing the final walk, to the after party at Guy Pelly's new Sloane Square venue 'Tonteria,' the night was a huge success!

Here are a couple of photos that I took on the night:

I helped put this look together,, from the perspex dome and bra, to the
iridescent chain-mail skirt :)

Highlights from Vogue's Fashion Night Out - London, 2012

Vogue's Fashion Night out is one of the fashion industry's biggest nights of the year, with various cities worldwide celebrating creativity, individuality, style, luxury and a good stiff drink. Bond Street - Old and New - were full of finely dressed human beings, parading their clothes, on the giant catwalk of the streets (and, not to mention, the queues outside certain stores.) I had never been to FNO until this year, and very quickly learnt what i had been missing out on for the previous 3 years the event has taken place: some great people watching, some fabulous luxury entertainment, and some finely made cocktails and canapes, mostly.

Here are some of my FNO hightlights, including Alex holding a reptile, meeting London Jeweller Theo Fennell, and the terrifying Louis Vuitton shop windows.

Olympic and Paralympic British Pride

Loving the Olympics and the Paralympics being in London this summer! It's got people talking about everything that matters, instead of the weather and has changed people's attitudes towards so many things, including getting fit, disability and Londonners.

On a beautiful sunny day out in Hackney, East London, I stumbled upon this piece of graffiti art by Pure Evil, of a 'youf' nicking one of the Olympic rings, and it made my day.

Quirky Sydney

Who would have thought Sydney was going to be so quirky? I just imagined Kangaroos and Koalas roaming the land, and men with cool hats and funky accents drinking beer on the sand all day.

Almost famous

With a little creative imagination, you will see my name is already in lights (so to speak). The second photo may also require some basic knowledge of the French language, and knowing my surname. Now I just need to get myself on Google.

A Place I Love: LEON

Not only does this place share a name with one of my favourite movies of all time, but it also serves up a mean (but healthy) lunch! I had posh Fish n Chips (the fish was salon and the chips were lke baked hash browns) and Mum had a superfood salad, with all sorts of grains and healthy goodness. It's the best place for a light, summer meal. Big love for Leon.

Lovely Jubly Jubilee

PROUD TO BE BRITISH
Just a little thing my dad bought for the Diamond Jubilee Four-day Weekend. Tacky? Or just awesome?

Words of encouragement

Bob is unemployed and applied for a job as janitor at Microsoft. A manager at Human Resources interviews him in detail then asks him to wipe a few floors as a test. "OK," says the interviewer, "you're hired. Just give me your e-mail address and I'll send you the necessary documents." Bob says he doesn't have a computer, so obviously has no e-mail address. The Microsoft interviewer tells him that without an e-mail address he virtually doesn't exist, so the company is unable to hire him.

Disappointed and frustrated, Bob leaves the building with only 10 dollars in his pocket. He decided to go to the nearest supermarket and buy 10 pounds of tomatoes. He sells the tomatoes door-to-door and within two hours he has doubled his capital. He repeats the process three times and end up with 160 dollars. Realizing that he can making a living this way, Bob works hard from early morning to late at night. Everyday he doubles or even triples his capital. After a short time he buys a small van, and then a truck, and soon he has an entire fleet for his deliveries. Within 5 years, Bob has established one of the largest food retail chains in the USA. He decides to think about his future and wants to get a financial plan drawn up for himself and his family. He contacts a financial consultant and they compile a pension plan.

At the end of the discussion, the consultant asks Bob for his e-mail address in order to send him the correspondence documents, only to hear that Bob still does not own a computer and has no e-mail address. "That's weird," says the consultant. "You have built up a massive retail empire and you don't even have an e-mail address. Just image what you would have achieved if you'd had a computer."

Bob thinks for a minute, then says, "I'd be a janitor at Microsoft."

Revenge of the Fifth

If yesterday was Star Wars Day (a.k.a May the 4th) does that make today the Revenge of the Fifth?...

Azealia Banks - 212 ft. Lazy Jay

I don't know what it is about this song, but I love it. It's probably mostly to do with the video: a really innocent-looking smiley girl, with the pearliest of white teeth, in a Mickey Mouse top, singing/rapping obscenities and dancing like a cool, calm and collected crazy person. (You'll have to watch the video to understand what I mean.) And then there's Lazy Jay, living up to his name in the background.

Be warned, it's catchy!

Happy 448th Birthday to William Shakespeare

Today marks the great playwright William Shakespeare's 448th Birthday!
I'm not sure Moonpig can provide cards with such large numbers on it...

Here are a list of phrases we owe to our very, very old friend:

Rethink your Drink

Just putting things into perspective for y'all. No wonder Vodka & Red Bull has been rumoured to kill people: the energy from Red Bull masking the buzz and depressant effect produced from the Alcohol, PLUS a whole load of sugar - doesn't sound good to me. Although I'm curious as to why there is any sugar in the bottle of water...

Texts from Dog

Amazing blog I have just stumbled upon that will (often) have you literally howling with laughter. (See what I did there?)

The concept? A guy gets texts from his dog and he posts the messages on his blog. Totally normal.

Here are some of my faves:

Disney Couture

Artist Dante Taylor has given us a different perspective of the once-sweet and innocent damsels from the Disney movies of our childhood. The Vogue Princesses series shows them all grown up, giving them an edgy look, typical of fashion magazine covers.

Art gone skinny

Anna Utopia Giordano, a female Italian artist, has digitally sliced and diced some great images of voluptuous nudes from the past to make them into a more idealistic 21st century vision of skin and bones - what many consider to be the image of perfection and ultimate beauty. Her images are actually quite shocking as she reveals the modern attitude towards the ideal female form. The difference between the past painter's images of Venus, seen as the most beautiful women in mythology, and the miniature visions of skin and bones that is supposedly 'beautiful' these days is actually quite worrying.

It will be easier to see the images if you click on them and scroll through them by using the thumbnails along the bottom.

I think it's important for us all to ask ourselves which four of the eight images above we prefer the look of.
